Treasure Valley Open Access Agreement - Boise Public Library
Treasure Valley Open Access Agreement

Effective October 1, 1997

The Treasure Valley Open Access Agreement allows residents of seven library districts to share resources and information services. With this agreement, the Treasure Valley Libraries intend to provide access to library services and circulation of materials for all residents within their respective service area.

We hope you will enjoy the expanded service and that your basic questions will be answered here. Your privileges and responsibilities depend upon where your library card has been registered. Ask the library you are visiting for details.

This agreement will be in effect for the period of October 1, 1997 through September 30, 1998 and will automatically renew unless parties terminate the agreement.

Extension of Privileges

Circulation, reference, and information services are unrestricted. All patrons will be subject to the rules and regulations of the library from which they borrow materials or request services. Rules, fine policies, loan periods and grace periods may vary between libraries.

Some libraries may have charges for certain services, such as placing a hold. Attendance at programs that require registration may be open to local residents only. Check at each library regarding the policy and options for your specific situation.

Issuance Of Library Cards & Residency Status

Usually patrons must apply for a card at their "home" library. Some participating libraries are on separate computer databases and require that an additional application be completed. Verify library policy at the checkout desk.

Proof of residence is required when applying for a library card. Your residency status is determined as of the day you register for library service or annually renew your card. If you own property within any of the library taxing districts, but do not reside in the district, proof of property ownership also is required.

If a change of address occurs, it must be reported to each library from which you borrow materials.

Borrower cards for nonresidents living outside the Treasure Valley Libraries Agreement area are available for purchase. Nonresident cardholders realize the same privileges and responsibilities as resident patrons.

Returning Materials

Patrons may return borrowed materials to any location listed in this brochure. However, you are encouraged to return them to the location from which the materials were borrowed.

Materials cannot be checked in until they reach their home library. Courier service varies at each location. Ask at the checkout desk for details. Patrons are responsible for any late fines.

Interlibrary Loans

Patrons may request an interlibrary loan at any library without regard to home library status. Interlibrary loan materials must be picked up and returned to the library handling the request.
