Library Cards for Your Students

Boise Public Library can supply teachers with "class visit" applications for library cards. Students will take home the applications, have parents complete the information and return them to their teacher. Teachers will return completed applications to the library at least two weeks before a class visit. We will have the students' library cards ready for them when the class visits the library . This process saves parents a trip to the library if their child does not have a card. If you are not planning a library visit, but would like to get library cards for your students, we can use this process as well.

Assignment Alerts (Main Library)

Print and fill in the form below to notify Main Library staff of your upcoming research assignments.  This will help us better assist your students and enable us to make appropriate resources available. http://www.boisepubliclibrary.org/Research/Presentations_and_Tours/assignmentalert.html

Tours

Librarians will give your students a tour of the library and introduce services available to them. We will familiarize them with the collection, teach them to use the online library catalog, and show them how to find materials in the library.

Story Sharing

Librarians will share stories with your students. Stories can be related to a specific theme or we can choose our favorites.

Booktalks

Librarians will share books with your students. We can choose books appropriate for your students' age or subject. We specialize in booktalking the Young Reader's Choice Award books annually.

E-collections and Databases

Librarians can familiarize students with online subscription E-collections and other electronic resources available to them on the library's website onsite and from home. We will teach students how to successfully search for articles and information, while helping them evaluate the sources. To access online subscription E-collections from outside the library, an individual must have a valid Boise Public Library card.

Gates Computer Lab (Main Library)

Sign your class up to use our computer lab on the first floor of the Main Library. The "Gates Lab" is equipped with 10 student computers with headphones, one teacher computer, a printer, and a projector. These computers have Internet access and access to the library's databases. The computers are loaded with the following applications: Explorer, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel. To reserve the Gates lab, call 384-4442 or 384-4076.

Subject to Availability

Class visits will be scheduled to the extent that staffing limitations and other program or service priorities permit. Classes outside the Boise city limits and Boise Area of Impact requesting a specialized program at the library or a library program at their school will be considered on an individual basis.
