The new library is progressing, with a couple of milestones in place. The roofing products are in place and the building is 'dried -in'.  Sheetrock work has begun, with the walls and ceilings nearing completion.  The next couple of weeks will be spent on taping the walls and ceiling and getting the heating system fired.

Going up! Large pieces of metal like this will function as the building's eaves around the roof's perimeter.

Steady she goes.

View from North side of Ustick of same metal piece being lifted by crane.

Metal overhang is in place and anchored.

Example of bolts used to secure metal structural pieces.

Outside area for children on south side of building. Short concrete walls will serve as benches. The area will be surrounded by wrought-iron fencing

Stormwater from roof will be channeled to concrete troughs and directed into planted swales, which provide vegetative filtering of pollutants.

Topsoil recovered from site to minimize environmental waste and expense. This will be used in landscaping.

Topsoil on the move! Careful choice of plantings and efficient irrigation practices will ensure water-efficient landscaping around the library.

Peninsulas are scattered throughout the parking area. A mix of native & adapted plantings will provide attractive open space & promote biodiversity.

Utilities await one of several 20' light poles for the parking area. The shorter poles minimize light pollution while providing optimal illumination.

Recycling bins such as this black one help manage construction waste, diverting it from landfills and into re-use.

All concrete-holding equipment is rinsed in a specified area lined with Visqueen so that the contaminated soil can be hauled away.

Black boxes identify the locations of furniture & equipment that will be "wired", such as the front check-out counters & AV-equipped meeting rooms.

See the grey "stripes" across the bottom of the interior space? Flexible utilities such as these can be moved relatively easily as needs change.

Library Director Kevin Booe and Project Manager Dan Barrus check construction progress.

Metal decking will be used to support the roof of the library.

These rolls of Visqueen will be used to prevent moisture penetration into flooring materials.
