What is The Big Read? The 2008 Big Read program is presented by The Cabin, Ada Community Library and Boise Public Library under a grant for The Big Read, a national initiative from the National Endowment of the Arts. Like other "one book" programs, The Big Read encourages literary reading by inviting communities to come together to read and discuss a single book. The initiative was designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The NEA presents The Big Read in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest, bringing together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment. Local libraries also participate in Kids Read the Same Book, a "one book" program for children and young teens.
