FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Booksale Raises $18,700 to Benefit Library
(Boise, Idaho – 10/29/07) The Friends of the Boise Public Library raised $18,700 to benefit the library at last weekend’s Annual Fall Booksale, held in the library’s Hayes Auditorium. Between its annual spring and fall booksales and its bookstore in the downtown library, the Friends group expects to raise over $100,000 this year. Last August, the group wrote a check for $237,000 to fund books and materials for the new Collister and Hillcrest neighborhood libraries. This followed a 2004 donation of $100,000 to help purchase property in Bown Crossing for a future Southeast Boise library. The Collister and Hillcrest libraries are scheduled to open this coming December and January, respectively. The Southeast Boise library is scheduled to open in 2010, roughly one year after a new library opens in West Boise at Cole and Ustick. Friends volunteers process over 200,000 books each year for the two sales and the bookstore. The Friends group is a non-profit volunteer organization founded to promote the interest and welfare of the library. To learn more about donating books or joining the Friends organization, call 384-4238, or visit the library’s website at www.boisepubliclibrary.org. ###
