FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

Denise Baird Appointed to Library Board

(Boise, Idaho – 5/14/07)   Boise Public Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Denise Baird to the library’s Board of Trustees.  Baird’s appointment by Mayor David Bieter was approved Tuesday, May 8 by the Boise City Council, to be effective immediately.

Baird is employed by Hewlett-Packard Company in Boise.  As senior counsel, she is responsible for providing commercial and competition law advice for the company’s multi-billion dollar LaserJet Printer product line.  She also has background in civil litigation and employment law.

“As we expand library services to Boise neighborhoods and look at a new main library down the road, an engaged, proactive Library Board is essential,” Bieter said. “We’re fortunate to be able to add Denise’s leadership skills and her commitment to our community to the strengths of the existing Board.”

Baird joins current Board members James M. Thompson, President; Martie Brennan, Vice President; A. J. Balukoff and Marc C. Johnson, Trustees; and  Rachel Harman and Luke Studebaker, Youth Trustees.

A graduate of the University of Idaho Law School in Moscow, Baird has been an active participant in community service in the Boise area.  She is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Learning Lab, and past member and president of the Board of Directors for the Hays Shelter Home.   She was also founding coordinator for the Idaho Attorneys Against Hunger fundraising project, a member of the Idaho Welfare Reform Task Force, and a Board member and President of the Idaho Law Foundation.

The library’s Board sets policy for the operation of the public library.  It is composed of five Boise City residents representing a cross section of community interests. Each voting Board appointment is for five years with a maximum service limit of ten consecutive years. All members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.
