FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Over 5,900 Visited Library Saturday
(Boise, Idaho – 01/11/08) Long lines, cars circling the parking lot, and lots of children marked an unusually busy day for Boise Public Library’s Main Library this past weekend. Over 5,900 people visited the library during the seven hours it was open on Saturday, Jan. 5.
“There were check-out lines all the way to the stairs intermittently throughout the day,” reports Vicki Rae, Circulation Manager, “even while the self-checkout machines were in use.” Library users visit the library to use computers, to access the Internet, for reference services and programs, and to check out books, music and movies.
On a typical day, Boise Public Library serves over 3,200 customers in its facilities, not counting visitors to the library’s website. This number is expected to increase shortly when the Library opens two new full-service libraries in the Collister and Hillcrest shopping centers. A third neighborhood branch library is scheduled to open in 2009 at Cole and Ustick.
In addition, the library’s website at www.boisepubliclibrary.org functions as a virtual branch, where library customers can use reference services and online databases, search the online catalog, check due dates, and reserve or renew books and other materials.
