Re-Art - Boise Public Library
Re-Art for kids: Fall & Spring, 2011- 2012
In partnership with Boise’s Arts & History Department and TrICA (Treasure Valley Institute for Children’s Arts, with support from Idaho Power, Boise Public Library offers RE-ART for Kids, a great monthly series for children!

Arts for Kids programs encourage children to explore and embrace art in new contexts, inspiring creative minds and encouraging critical thinking to help our children connect with the world and with each other.

South African Gumboot Dance

Born out of the adversity of apartheid in South Africa. As students learn powerful dance steps, they also learn the history and story of social injustice, the healing power of music and dance, and the triumph of the human spirit. With TriCA teacher Jon Swarthout.

 (Guatemalan Dolls That Remove Worries) Create your own muñecas quitapena, which according to Guatemalan legend will chase away the worries you tell it when you put it near your pillow at bedtime. You’ll be all set for a great night’s sleep and wake up worry-free!

Hillbilly Jug Band

Take a journey back to the musical roots of rural America and learn how to play jug, kazoo, washboard, jaw harp, spoons, washtub bass & ordinary household items as instruments. With a little practice, you’ll be part of a genuine jug band! Feel free to bring some of your own household items to try out. Older siblings are welcome!  With TriCA teachers Travis & Allison Ward of Hillfolk Noir.

1980's New Wave Music

Do you like to safety dance? Wear your sunglasses at night? Shake it up? The New Wave Movement was all about creativity and theatricality. In this totally tubular class, kids will learn about the magic of ‘80s music and learn to play a rockin’ song! Bonus: A prize will be given to the best dressed ‘80s style rocker! Needle Felting

Turning Textures into Art

Roll It, Rub It, Stick It, Stack It – Create a variety of textural rubbings on fine Japanese paper and combine them into a colorful collage on cotton rag paper. Steer your creation through the etching press and – voila! You have a beautiful blind embossment. Take home and frame this awesome work of art!  With TriCA teaching artist Amy Nack of Wingtip Press.

Monkey Show Puppet Performance

Join Jojo the orangutan and his friend Monkey for an excellent puppet adventure. Who knows how the story will end when these two silly friends get together.
