The following divisions pertain to the Main Library downtown at 715 S. Capitol Blvd. Staff at branch libraries have many of the responsibilities listed under Adult Services, Circulation and Youth Services.   

Administration

The Administration division is responsible for overall planning and supervision of library services, safety, security, personnel, budgeting, financial records, purchasing and payments, public relations and marketing, and maintenance of the physical facilities.  Administration also serves as the Library's link with the Library Board of Trustees, Boise Public Library Foundation, Friends of Boise Public Library, and other departments and governing bodies of the City of Boise. 

Adult Services

The Adult Services division offers programs and materials for adult patrons including books in print, audio and downloadable formats, electronic resources, audio visual materials, microfilm data, periodicals and government documents. Reference Desk staff provide research assistance on almost any topic, with questions and answers coming in person, by telephone or by e-mail.  

Circulation

The Circulation division issues library cards, checks out and receives library materials, receives payments for library fines and staffs the First Floor Information Desk. 

Technical Services

The Technical Services division handles ordering, classification, cataloging, and processing of all library materials before the items are placed in the general library area for patrons to borrow. The division also repairs damaged library materials, coordinates mail services for the library and processes "serial" items like magazines and newspapers.  The division is also responsible for selection of library materials for all ages and locations.

Youth Services

The Youth Services division answers reference and reader's advisory questions, and provides programs and services for children and teens, parents, teachers, school librarians and childcare centers. Programs include story times and a variety of special programs and projects for specific age groups, from babies to older teens.  Staff from this division also take programs to the schools to get young readers interested in and excited about the library and reading.
