More downloads AND streaming!
Now, with your Boise Public Library card, you can stream up to three hours of music from our Freegal Music service!
And, we've increased your weekly download allotment from three songs to five!
- To stream, sign in to Freegal, then move your cursor over the desired song or an album, and click on the "stream now" button. If you click “stream now” on an album, the entire album will play in order. Just click the pause button to stop.
- Nothing has changed with the download functionality, except that the sample clips are gone. You’ll sample music by streaming instead.
- You’ll see counters in the upper right corner on the Freegal page after you've signed in, to help you keep track of your usage.
Choose from thousands of artists, tens of thousands of albums, and hundreds of thousands of songs in the vast Sony music collection and other licensed labels for your personal use.* Song tracks are downloaded directly from your browser as MP3 files. There are iOS and Android apps, or files can be saved to any computer or mobile device, including iPods. Short clips are available for sampling prior to selecting your music.
Thanks to Freegal’s arrangements with participating labels, there are no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions.* So, once you download the songs, they're yours to keep!
To get started, just click here and enter your Boise Public Library card number and PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number).
Questions? See if the answer is listed here, or ask a librarian. Or see more FAQs on the Freegal site.
*Note that other copyright laws apply. The participating music labels have authorized customers of libraries subscribing to Freegal to download copies of the music for personal use. However, sharing the music file with others (for instance, by giving them a CD, emailing the file or making it available online or via a file-sharing network) - would likely violate copyright law.
