
Getting Started with NetLibrary eAudiobooks
The NetLibrary
downloadable eAudiobook service is offered by the Idaho Commission for
Libraries LiLI program. (www.lili.org)
With this service you can download eAudiobooks to listen to on your PC or
transfer them to your media player. You will also find some ebooks that can
be read online.
This document
contains general instructions for downloading an eAudiobook and
transferring it to a media device. Please keep in mind that there are many
different media devices and many different ways to accomplish this transfer.
This document attempts to provide step by step instructions for most media
devices in general terms. You may need to refer to your owner’s manual for
more specific information.

Requirements
1. Your media player must be installed and working with
Microsoft Windows 98 SE and higher.
2. Any software needed by your media player to be recognized
by Windows Media Player must be installed and functioning prior to
attempting to transfer an audio book.
3. Your media player must support the Windows Media Audio
(.wma) format. NetLibrary supports a wide range of media devices, including
MP3 players and PDA’s.

eAudiobook:
5. You will need a user ID and password from NetLibrary in
order to access the Audiobook Center. If you do not already have a
NetLibrary account you can register for an account at http://www.lili.org.
See "Creating a NetLibrary Account" below. document.
6. It is strongly recommended that you have access to a
cable/broadband or DSL connection to the Internet. Dial-up connections are
not recommended.
Creating a NetLibrary Account
Go the LiLI eAudiobooks link in the middle of this page you
see below (www.lili.org)
- Click on First time users, setup an account
- On the next screen log in or if you don't have the log in info verify you are an Idaho resident
- Select the type of library that issued your library card.
- Select your library from the list.
- Click on NetLibrary account and fill out the form to create
your account.
- After your account is created you can go directly to
www.netlibrary.com to log in and
checkout eAudiobooks.

Finding an eAudiobook
- With your User ID and password log into the NetLibrary
www.netlibrary.com Welcome
page and navigate to the eAudiobooks Center (see box on right
side - last item).

- Click on eAudiobook Center to
start searching.
- There are several ways to find a book in the eAudiobook Center. You can select one of
the featured books, search by keyword, title, author, or Narrator, or
you can click on "List All eAudiobooks".

Selecting and Downloading an eAudiobook
- When you find a book you wish to download, click on the title.
Then click "Download this eAudiobook".

- Select the download quality. Be sure to select "Checkout &
Download CD Quality" if you intend to transfer the title to a portable
audio device.
NOTE: Radio Quality will work for listening to the
eAudiobook on
your computer.

If you are using a pop-up blocker or firewall software,
such as Windows Firewall, the file download may be blocked. Follow
the instructions at the top of your Window to resume the download. You may also click "Download
the eAudiobook manually"
If you need to download a book a second time use the "Download the
eAudiobook manually" link.

- When the File Download box appears choose "SAVE".
Save the file to any location on your computer that is easy for you to
find and remember.

- Once the file is download is complete click the "Close" button.
NOTE: During the download process you may receive a message that
your session is about to end due to inactivity. Click the "Continue
Session" button.

Transferring the eAudiobook to Your Media Player
- When the download is complete start Windows Media Player, which can usually be found by clicking the
Start button on the
Windows Taskbar (lower left side) and then click All Programs.

- If you have not already done so, connect your media player to your
computer. Refer to your media player user's guide if you need
assistance with making the connection.
- NOTE: You MUST play part of the book
in Windows Media Player to acquire the license from NetLibrary.
You will need to be connected to the Internet during that time.
- Open the eAudiobook by clicking the down arrow in the upper right of
Windows Media Player.

- Select File and then Open.

- In the Open dialog box, click the Desktop icon on the left to
display the files on your Windows Desktop. Highlight the name of
the eaudiobook and click Open.

NOTE: If a pop-up appears requesting a license
acquisition if may be because your checkout time has expired.
Enter your NetLibrary user ID and password to re-checkout the book and
acquire a new license.
- The book will now be playing in Windows Media Player. Press the Stop
button to stop play.
- To copy the eAudiobook to your media player, right click on the name
of the book under the Now Playing List on the right side of the
screen.
- Select Add To and then Sync List to add the audio book
to the Sync List.

- Click on the Sync Tab on the menu bar and the Sync List
will now be displayed on the left side of the screen.

- Click Sync on the menu bar and the Sync screen will be
displayed.

- On the left side of the screen should be the audiobook you selected
to copy to your media player. On the right side of the screen your media
player should appear at the top and a list of audio files, if any,
already on your media player. If your media player device does not
appear at the top, click the arrow to the right and select your device
from the list.
NOTE: If your media player does not appear on the dropdown
list, then you must configure Windows Media Player to accept your
device. Please refer to the Windows Media Player Help information
or your media player user's guide for more information on using your
device.
- Click on the Start Sync button on the upper left of the
screen to begin the transfer. The eAudiobook will be copied to
your device.

- After the synchronization is complete disconnect your media player
from you computer. You may now play the book on your media device.
Renewing an eAudiobook
- When an audiobook is "checked out" and downloaded you may listen to
it for 21 days. After 21 days the eAudiobook will not play. You
can renew the book by double clicking the eAudiobook icon you created on
your desktop during the original download. You will be prompted to
enter your NetLibrary User ID and Password
- Windows Media Player will receive the new license for the eAudiobook
and begin playing the file. You can then stop play and transfer
the file to your media player as described above.
NOTE: If you finish your book early it is NOT possible to
"return" it early. You can, however, delete it from your computer
and/or media device. You may have 10 books "checked out" at one
time.
