Booksales & Bookstore
The Friends Fall Book Sale raised $25,000 to benefit the Library! Kudos to our hard-working Friends group!
The 2013 Spring Book Sale is scheduled for April 4, 5, 6 and 7. See our online calendar for details.
How Your Book Sale Purchases Benefit the Library
Each year, the Friends organization raises over $100,000 to benefit the library, all through book sales and the Friends Bookstore in the library. In recent years, funds raised by the Friends purchased opening-day collections for the new Collister and Hillcrest libraries and a generous portion of the opening-day collection for the Cole & Ustick library, as well as supporting selected library programs.
All preparation for and staffing of the sales is provided by volunteers, who typically sort through about 100,000 items to prepare for a sale. Besides the spring and fall book sales, the Friends also have a regular ongoing book sale and a bookstore at the Main Library.
General Book Sale Information
The Friends of Boise Public Library hold two very successful annual book sales each year. The spring sale is usually held the first weekend of April, and includes a special price for books-by-the-bag. The fall sale is usually the last weekend of October, and includes better-quality books for gift giving.
Both sales are three or four day events that encompass a weekend, and both include a preview sale for Friends members the evening before the public sale begins. Sunday is always half-price day. Additional books are stocked regularly during the sale, except on Sunday.
While sale inventory varies, it usually includes pocket & trade paperback books from all genres, sets of books, computer books & software, classics, kids books, coffee table books, cookbooks and retired library hardback best sellers, as well as limited videos and music.
