How Your Purchases Benefit the Library

Each year, the Friends organization raises over $180,000 to benefit the Library, all through
book sales and the Friends Bookstore. In recent years, funds raised by the Friends have gone towards purchasing opening-day collections for the Collister and Hillcrest libraries, and a generous portion of the opening-day collection for the Library! at Cole & Ustick. The Friends also support many special programs and projects that we could not offer otherwise (or offer as well), ranging from Summer Reading and Library Comic Con to furniture for reading areas and our new 3D printers

All preparation for and staffing of the sales is provided by volunteers, who typically sort through about 200,000 items to prepare for a sale. Besides the spring and fall book sales, the Friends also have a regular ongoing book sale and a bookstore at the Main Library, an online bookstore through Amazon, and conduct occasional smaller sales, such as the comics sale during Library Comic Con.
