Idaho Teen Reading Challenge
Idaho Teen Reading Challenge
Program Information
Teens, ages 12-19, are invited to participate in this year’s Teen Reading Challenge, a statewide program from Idaho Commission for Libraries. In order to complete the challenge, teens must read 8 books in 8 different categories between October 2022 and April 2023. They can choose from the following categories:
- Award Nominee:a book nominated for an award (YASLA has some great lists for inspiration.)
- Book to Movie: a book that has been made into a movie
- Book with a Red Cover: book cover is red (or mostly red)
- Free Choice: read whatever you want!
- From a Library Display:a book from a physical or digital display at the library (Visit our For Teens page or the Overdive Teens section for options in digital display format.)
- IBOB Title: from this year’s Idaho Battle of the Books selections
- Not a Novel: nonfiction, poetry, book of short stories, etc.
- Published in the Last Five Years: published in 2017 or later
- Recommended by a Mentor: read a book recommended by a librarian, teacher, parent, or other mentor
- Saw it on BookTok: read a book you saw on TikTok
Tracking Progress
Register on boisepubliclibrary.beanstack.org to track your challenge progress on the Beanstack website or app. There are also paper tracking sheets and reading journals available for pick-up at all Library locations.
Prizes
Visit any Library location after each book read for the challenge to receive a small prize! We will also have two larger prize drawings during the challenge. The first drawing will be on February 1, and the more books a teen has read, the more entries they will get into the drawing. The second drawing will take place on May 1 at the end of the challenge for any teens who have read all 8 books.
Teens must be registered in Beanstack to win prizes in the drawings. If you are tracking the challenge on paper outside of Beanstack, please make sure to visit a Library location to have your challenge progress entered in Beanstack for a chance to win!
