Program Information

This year’s theme is Tails & Tales, and we’ll have options for readers of all ages to participate from June 1 through August 15. We’ll have reading logs, challenges, programs and events for each age group, and all participants will get one book to keep along with the opportunity to earn a second book and a completion prize.

Early Readers (0 to 5)

Goals: Read one book or chapter every day, on your own or with someone else.

Bonus Activities: Complete one early literacy activity every day (read, write, sing, talk or play).

Prizes:

  • Register for the program and earn your first prize book.
  • After 30 days of reading, you’ll earn a second prize book.
  • After 50 days of reading, you'll earn a library llama stuffed animal.
  • If you read all 76 days, you’ll be in our Summer Reading Hall of Fame!

Youth (6 to 11)

Goal: Read for 20 minutes every day.

Bonus Activities: Challenge yourself to complete as many of the ten bonus activities as you can.  

Prizes:

  • Register for the program and earn your first prize book.
  • After 30 days of reading, you’ll earn a second prize book.
  • After 50 days of reading, you'll earn a writing set.
  • If you read all 76 days, you’ll be in our Summer Reading Hall of Fame!

Teens (12 to 17)

Goal: Read for 20 minutes every day.

Bonus Activities: Challenge yourself to complete as many of the ten bonus activities as you can. 

Prizes:

  • Register for the program and earn your first prize book.
  • After 30 days of reading, you’ll earn a second prize book.
  • After 50 days of reading, you'll earn a vinyl sticker pack.
  • If you read all 76 days, you’ll be in our Summer Reading Hall of Fame!

Adults (18+)

Goal: Read for 20 minutes every day.

Bonus Activities: Challenge yourself to complete as many of the ten bonus activities as you can. 

Prizes:

  • Register for the program and earn your first prize book.
  • After 30 days of reading, you’ll earn a second prize book.
  • After 50 days of reading, you'll earn a campfire mug.
  • If you read all 76 days, you’ll be in our Summer Reading Hall of Fame!

How to Participate

Visit any Boise Public Library location during Summer Reading Kick-off Week (June 1-4) to pick up your first prize book and get set up to track your reading. Can’t make it to the Kick-off Week? No worries! You can stop by any Library location after June 1 to pick up your first prize book while supplies last.
