Data Collected by the Library

Library Policy states: “The Boise Public Library may generate various forms of ephemeral records with patron phone numbers, addresses, and/or email addresses for administrative and/or various business purposes such as telephone or email reference requests and questions, patron hold requests, program requests, PC reservations, etc.”

These records may exist in hard copy or electronic form and are destroyed on a regular and routine basis determined by the Confidentiality of Records Policy.

Definition of Personally Identifiable Information: For the purposes of this statement "personally identifiable information" means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual who is the subject of the information.

Personally Identifiable Information is Not Routinely Collected. Users do not have to routinely provide personal information to visit the resources on the Boise Public Library website. We may, however, request personally identifiable information from you in order to provide requested services, but such information is handled as it would be on an in-person visit to the Library.

E-mail addresses obtained as a result of a request or from use of the Library’s website will not be sold or given to non-profit or commercial companies or organizations for marketing or other purposes. E-mail or other information requests sent to the Library’s website may be maintained for specific periods of time in order to respond to the request or to provide the Library with valuable customer feedback to assist in improving the Library’s services.

The IP (Internet Protocol) numbers of computers (servers) used to visit this site are noted as part of the Library’s statistical analysis on use of its website in order to better design services and improve access to them. However, the site does not attempt to gain personally identifiable information on individual users nor does it associate them with individual IP addresses.

To use Boise Public Library databases remotely (from outside the Library), users are asked for all or part of their Boise Public Library card number, to ensure that only authorized users have access. Database vendors do not have access to any user records or information.
