Obituaries and Local History

The library has a print collection of local history materials on the 3rd floor of the Downtown Library. The collection includes books, maps, directories, magazines, and a collection of files on local history. We also have digital resources for genealogy and local history research. We also provide limited services for people unable to access these resources.

Request Obituaries or Idaho Information

In addition to accessing online and in branch resources, we will also send copies of specific pages from these special collections for a small fee. Fees will only be charged for items staff are able to locate and an invoice will be sent along with the requested materials for payment.

  • Idaho Statesman obituary and death notices - $5.25/request
  • Idaho Clipping File or Idaho Statesman articles - $5.25/request
  • Phone book and Boise city directories for a specific name or business during a specific year* - $1.25/page

Please limit obituary and article requests to four (4) requests per week, and limit directory requests to five pages per week.

*Directories include the Polk City Directories (1891 to current), telephone books (1948 to current), and the Hill-Donnelly Cross Reference Directory (1969-1970, 1872-1991, 1993-2004).
