Director's Update – June 2022

Happy Summer!
Is there anything better than reading in the summer? Whether it’s devouring a juicy, celebrity memoir in a chair by the beach, puzzling through a complicated mystery in a hammock, or listening to a gripping adventure story during a long road trip, summer reading is always a pleasure. For students it is often the only time to choose books purely for pleasure and for adults, well, I figure I’m not the only one who goes on vacation with two suitcases – one for clothes and one for books!
This year’s Summer Reading theme is “Oceans of Possibilities” and at Boise Public Library we have a great program designed to help make reading a fun, daily habit. We encourage everyone to join the program and set a goal for yourself or your family. We have literacy activities for parents and caregivers because we know the role they play in getting kids ready to read. We have books available in five age ranges and, by popular demand, paper reading logs are available in addition to online tracking. You can learn more about the program on our website: Summer Reading | Boise Public Library
Thank you to everyone who was able to join our Summer Reading and Learning Celebration held at JUMP on May 21st. We partnered with Ada Community Libraries, Boise School District, Idaho Public Television, and Rediscovered Bookshop to celebrate reading and learning opportunities for youth this summer. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the celebration and to hear about your favorite places to read.
Please feel free to reach out to me at any time at LibraryDirector@cityofboise.org. I’d love to hear what you are reading, watching, or listening to this summer.
Thank you.
