Library Construction Updates
Welcome to the Boise Public Library’s Construction web page, a way for us to keep you informed of the exciting updates we are making to the first floor of the Downtown Library. We are excited about the improvements we will be bringing to you, our community, expanding access and opportunities for all! Check back frequently as we will be updating this web page as plans progress.
Downtown First Floor Renovation Project Status
The renovation project for the first floor has reached the twelve-month mark. We had estimated the project would take nine to twelve months, and while work is making good progress, we currently do not have an estimated opening date for the renovated first floor. We are waiting for information about some key construction elements to finalize our reopening plan, specifically the elevator installation timeline.
We will have an update on the First Floor Renovation Project for the Library Board of Trustees at their October board meeting. We expect to be able to provide more information on reopening plans at that time.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the public for being patient and understanding as we make these necessary investments in order to make sure the Downtown Library is safe and welcoming for everyone in our community.
Downtown Library Closure
The closure is part of an exciting renovation of the entire first floor of the Downtown Library, which began in September 2025. The changes will not only improve accessibility for Library users, but it will also allow us to make needed maintenance updates. The new space will also be a much more modern, flexible, and welcoming space to better serve our community, especially youth and families, who make up a significant portion of the Library’s daily users.
