Downtown Library Closing May 3-12, Reopening 2nd and 3rd Floors, May 13
April 15, 2026 12:00 PM
BOISE — The Downtown Library will be closed for electrical work Sunday, May 3, through Tuesday, May 12. It will reopen on Wednesday, May 13. A few important notes below:
- Materials cannot be returned to the Downtown Library May 3–12. Instead, Library users are asked to return their materials to one of the other four Boise Public Library locations or to wait until the Downtown Library reopens to return them at that location. The other Library locations will be open during their regular hours.
- Any holds that are not picked up before May 3 from the Downtown Library will be available for pickup at City Hall Lobby 8 a.m.–5 p.m., May 4–8 and May 11–12.
- Returns will not be accepted at City Hall.
The electrical work is part of the Downtown Library First Floor Renovation Project, which requires shutting down all power to the building, so contractors can install the new electrical system. When the Downtown Library reopens on Wednesday, May 13, it will be second and third floors only. The Downtown Library is expected to complete the entire First Floor Renovation Project in the fall of 2026. For any questions, please refer to this FAQ.
We appreciate the public’s patience and support as we complete this necessary work to ensure the Downtown Library is a safe and welcoming building for everyone in our community.
